This is Nissan’s new generation of X-Trail that it has finally launched in India. It is a three-row SUV and comes back to the Indian market after nearly a decade. The vehicle is available at Rs 49.92 lakh ex-showroom, joining the Nissan lineup in India that has the Magnite SUV. Orders for the X-Trail opened on July 26 with a requirement of token payment of Rs 1 lakh. Deliveries will thereafter begin next month. The X-Trail is expected to arrive in the market as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). The colors available will be Pearl White, Diamond Black, and Champagne Silver.
POWERTRAIN AND PERFORMANCE
The new Nissan X-Trail is available with only one engine: a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol unit, with variable compression and turbocharger, coupled to a 12V mild-hybrid system, which produces a very creditable 161bhp, although peak torque is 300 Nm. The powertrain is matched with a CVT automatic gearbox.
To help make the X-Trail efficient and responsive, the car features three drive modes: Eco, Standard, and Sport, along with an auto start/stop system. The X-Trail will only be offered in front-wheel drive form here in India. Although Renault has ruled out offering any all-wheel drive models for the market.
DIMENSIONS AND EXTERIOR DESIGN
The Nissan X-Trail is indeed smaller than some of the competing cars, which include the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Skoda Kodiaq. On the contrary, with a length of 4,680mm, width of 1,840mm, and height of 1,725mm, the Nissan X-Trail sports a decent amount of room and presence. Along with its wheelbase of 2,705mm and the ground clearance of 210mm, the SUV sports 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
It is designed as a carryover from the fourth generation of the global model, which was unveiled in 2021. Features include the split headlamps, the dark chrome-finished V-Motion grille, rounded wheel arches, LED daytime running lights, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and wraparound taillamps.
INTERIOR AND FEATURES
The new X-Trail offers a very sumptuous and roomy interior. The car will be a seven-seater with 50/50 split-folding, reclining third-row seats and 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding, and reclining second-row functionality. There are heaps of features with the SUV, such as dual-zone climate control, drive modes in excess, a limited-slip differential, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, traction control, seven airbags, digital instrument console of 12.3 inches, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, 8-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, three-spoke steering wheel, Brake Assist, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Emergency Stop Signal, all-wheel disc brakes, a TPMS, and keyless entry.
MARKET COMPETITION
Nissan X-Trail will find stiff competition in the Indian SUV market. Established names such as Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota Fortuner, and Hyundai Tucson are already dominating. So, Nissan X-Trail has to make-up for itself. With all its modern technology, a robust powertrain, and loads of features, the X-Trail will manage to find some niche for itself among the select group of Indian SUV buyers.
