KTM has launched the much-anticipated 890 Adventure R in India for ₹15.80 lakh ex-showroom. This launch marks a new chapter for adventure motorcyclists as the company delivers an extremely capable ADV machine that is designed to thrive both on rough trails and long highways. To complete the equation, KTM brings its 1290 Super Adventure S with more commanding power for riders who want to push the envelope. So basically, the total Indian lineup now extends up to ten motorcycles that reflect a serious presence of KTM in India’s premium two-wheeler market.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE

The KTM 890 Adventure R houses an 889cc parallel-twin engine, also used in the KTM 890 Duke R. While slightly detuned compared to the Duke R’s 121 bhp, the 890 Adventure R generates a solid 103.2 bhp and 100 Nm of torque, perfectly tailored for adventure riding. The six-speed gearbox, combined with a slipper clutch and quickshifter, ensures smooth, controlled gear transitions in all conditions, whether scaling off-road trails or cruising highways.

INSPIRED DESIGN

Inspiration for the 890 Adventure R drew in from KTM’s Dakar-winning 450 Rally. The signature orange and white paintwork is unmistakably KTM. The bike rides tall, ruggedly designed, and has dual LED headlights with a boomerang-shaped DRL-a modern touch. A larger windshield provides excellent wind protection which highly influences comfort when riding long journeys.

ADVANCED FEATURES AND HARDWARE

Especially built for versatility, the KTM 890 Adventure R comes equipped with premium components designed to handle diverse terrains:

  • Suspension: Fully adjustable WP Apex 43mm USD forks and a WP Apex rear monoshock for superior ride quality.
  • Braking: 320mm front discs and 260mm rear discs deliver reliable stopping power.
  • Wheels and Tires: 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheels with dual-purpose tires make it suitable for both on-road and off-road use.
  • Tech Features: Includes multiple riding modes, switchable ABS (with off-road mode), traction control, cruise control, and a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.

These features make the 890 Adventure R a well-rounded option for adventure touring enthusiasts.

COMPETITION IN THE MARKET

KTM 890 Adventure R tries to find a place in this promising and competitive group together with Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE, BMW F 900 GS, and Ducati DesertX. It is one of the prime contenders in the growing category in India with such a mix of aggressive style, powerful performance, and thoughtfully integrated features.

KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S: THE BIGGER SIBLING

And if that isn’t enough, the Austrian maker unveiled the 1290 Super Adventure S for a price of ₹ 22.74 lakh ex-showroom. With this flagship model, KTM is bringing in a 1301cc liquid-cooled twin-cylinder engine producing 158bhp and 138 Nm of torque. Feature-rich, this model will come with its six-speed transmission, bi-directional quick shifter, slipper clutch, and more of those features against which it will take on the BMW R 1300 GS, the Ducati Multistrada V4, and the Triumph Tiger 1200.

KTM’S EXPANDING ADVENTURE LINEUP

Consequently, KTM have found a comfort seat in the premium ADV category in India with the 890 Adventure R and 1290 Super Adventure S. While the 890 Adventure R gives an adventure experience in an approachable manner, the 1290 Super Adventure S pays homage to those who want only the very best.

Undoubtedly, these new add-ons will bring fresh excitement to India’s adventure motorcycling scene. With the new launches KTM continues to set benchmarks for the Indian ADV community with its ever-expanding portfolio.
