Royal Enfield is ready to bring the much-awaited Classic 650 to India on March 27, 2024. This new bike undoubtedly takes the age-old charm of Royal Enfield’s bestselling Classic 350 and mixes it with the tried-and-tested parallel-twin engine that has already won many hearts in Royal Enfield’s 650cc family. The Classic 650, with its vintage looks and contemporary engineering, is indeed ready to revolutionize the mid-capacity cruiser market.
Classic 650: A Heavy, Feature-Laden Machine
One of the most interesting things about the Classic 650 is particularly its weight. Weighing in at 243kg, it will be the Royal Enfield’s heaviest bike. Hence, beating the Super Meteor 650 by 2kg and the Shotgun 650 by 1kg. The bike has an old-school look with wire-spoke 19-inch front and 18-inch- rear wheels. Though this is in contrast to Shotgun 650 having alloy wheels. MRF Nylohigh tyres, which were especially designed for the bike, provide the best grip and handling on Indian roads.
Proven 648cc Parallel-Twin Engine
Under the bonnet, the Royal Enfield Classic 650 is driven by the familiar 648cc, air/oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine, which produces 47hp of power and 52Nm of torque. The engine is highly praised for its smooth and torquey nature. This engine has already been used on other Royal Enfield models such as the Super Meteor 650, Bear 650, Interceptor 650, and Continental GT 650. The six-speed transmission is unchanged, providing smooth power delivery and cruising ability.
Chassis and Suspension Shared with Shotgun 650
Mechanically, the Classic 650 rides on the Shotgun 650’s chassis, swingarm, brakes, and twin shock absorbers. Suspension tasks are undertaken by a 120mm travel telescopic fork upfront and a 90mm twin shock configuration in the rear, which offers an even blend of comfort and stability.
Colours and Expected Pricing
Royal Enfield will be selling the Classic 650 in four bold color schemes: Red, Blue, Teal, and Black Chrome. The price is likely to be in the same bracket as the Super Meteor 650 (Rs 3.64 lakh) and the Shotgun 650 (Rs 3.59 lakh) (ex-showroom, India).
CONCLUDING REMARKS
Altogether with its vintage appeal, sophisticated engine, and sturdy build, the Royal Enfield Classic 650 promises to lure enthusiasts seeking a dose of nostalgia alongside performance. Ahead of the release date, anticipation is mounting over this new arrival in Royal Enfield’s rapidly growing 650cc stable.
