Nissan has officially launched its much-anticipated new-generation X-Trail in India. This marks its return to the Indian market after nearly a decade. Priced at Rs 49.92 Lakh (ex-showroom), this three-row SUV joins Nissan’s India lineup alongside the Magnite SUV. Nissan began accepting orders for the X-Trail on July 26 with a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. Further, they will commence deliveries from next month. The X-Trail will be available as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). It further comes in three stunning exterior shades: Pearl White, Diamond Black, and Champagne Silver.

Powertrain and Performance

The new Nissan X-Trail comes with a single engine option: a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system. This engine boasts variable compression and a turbocharger, delivering a robust 161bhp of maximum power and 300Nm of peak torque. The powertrain is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. To enhance fuel efficiency and driving dynamics, the X-Trail offers three drive modes (Eco, Standard, and Sport) along with an auto start/stop system. Unlike some of its rivals, the X-Trail is available only with front-wheel drive. This is because Nissan has opted not to include all-wheel drive for the Indian market.

Dimensions and Exterior Design

The Nissan X-Trail, while slightly smaller compared to competitors like the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Skoda Kodiaq, offers ample space and presence. It measures 4,680mm in length, 1,840mm in width, and 1,725mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,705mm and a ground clearance of 210mm. The SUV comes standard with 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

In terms of design, the X-Trail follows the aesthetics of its fourth-generation global counterpart, which debuted in 2021. Key design highlights include split headlamps, a dark chrome-finished V-Motion grille, rounded wheel arches, LED daytime running lights, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, and wraparound taillamps.

Interior and Features

The new X-Trail offers a luxurious and spacious interior with a seven-seat configuration. The third row features 50/50 split-folding and reclining seats, while the second row offers 40/20/40 split-folding, sliding, and reclining functionality.

The SUV is packed with a host of features, including dual-zone climate control, multiple drive modes, a limited-slip differential, a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, traction control, seven airbags, a 12.3-inch digital instrument console, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, a three-spoke steering wheel, Brake Assist, Vehicle Dynamic Control, Emergency Stop Signal, all-wheel disc brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and keyless entry.

Market Competition

In the competitive Indian SUV market, the Nissan X-Trail goes up against established models like the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota Fortuner, and Hyundai Tucson. With its blend of modern technology, robust powertrain, and comprehensive feature set, the X-Trail aims to carve out a niche for itself among discerning Indian SUV buyers.
